Primary Purpose: Assist school bus driver in maintaining discipline while bus is in operation; maintain proper records and documentation; assist in student loading, unloading, and seating arrangements as required.
Qualifications: Must be a high school graduate or hold a GED certification. Must be at least 20 years of age. Previous experience working with children recommended.
Major Responsbilities:
1. Work as a team with the bus driver to maintain discipline on the school bus and ensure students arrive to their destination safe, on-time, and ready to learn.
2. Actively monitor students while bus is in operation to ensure student safety at all time.
3. Consult with and assist the bus driver in documentation of student information and recordkeeping.
4. Learn the assigned route and student names and be able to assist standby drivers when the regular driver is absent.
5. Assist driver in assuring seat belts are fastened and worn and harnesses, wheelchair clamps are secured as required for special needs routes.
6. Assist parents and school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students; coordinate seating of pre-kindergarten students and help maintain school bus seating charts.
7. Assist the driver in keeping the school bus clean and orderly.
8. Maintain current knowledge of school bus evacuation procedures.
9. Assist special needs children on and off the bus and escort children across the street as needed; lift children as required.
10. Attend in-service meetings and trainings as required.
11. Maintain confidentiality in regards to students and student records.
Mental/Physical Demands:
Requires regular standing, sitting, kneeling; must be able to maintain balance.
Occasional light lifting; Special needs monitors may require lifting of students.
Moderate walking; frequent climbing of steps/stairs.
Work early mornings and afternoons; occasional irregular work hours for early release and other situations; occasional prolonged work hours.
Maintain emotional control over stress.
